The charter bus pulled into the dreary and empty parking lot of Wiley Middle School, save a few sporadically parked cars here and there. On board, twenty-four tired and soon to be rain-drenched Wiley Middle school students along with their teachers and chaperons, fresh from their trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2011 Music Showcase Festivals’ Choir Competition. The students came back with some special travel mementos – food packs from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after their tour of disaster recovery efforts in Birmingham, Alabama. Exhibit brochures from the Rosa Parks museum in Montgomery, Alabama. And trophies. Lots and lots of trophies.
The official count is seven. Three of the 1st place awards are for individual solo performance. The next 1st place awards are divisional – 1st place concert choir. 1st place show choir. 1st place gospel choir.
The choir had succeeded in capturing the same placement from last year’s competition in Richmond, Virginia.
But this year, the granddaddy of them – Best Overall Middle School Choir – came home with Wiley Middle School Challenge Choir!
Congratulations Wiley Middle School Challenge Choir for your phenomenal performance. On behalf of all the parents and coordinators of this competition, we thank all our supporters, sponsors and volunteers who helped make this trip a reality.
The choir invites the CH-UH community to see all seven 1st place trophies and their award-winning performance during the spring vocal music concert set for Wednesday, June 1 at 7pm at Wiley Middle School auditorium.
