Green City Blue Lake writer Marc Lefkowitz reported on the Future Heights Forum last Thursday.
Mr. Lefkowitz reported that the experts at the forum concluded that lack of civic cohesion that got us into this pickle.
Problem is, there was community vision.
The community vision in South Euclid took the form of a Comprehensive Plan dated 2000 and updates in both 2005 and 2010. They all recommended that Oakwood remain zoned as residential. You can read all 3 documents at the South Euclid Planning Commission’s website.
The South Euclid Planning Commission is still going to recommend that Oakwood be rezoned.
The Citizens for Oakwood steering committee members approached Mayor Welo and Mayor Kelley over a year ago.
They refused to meet with us to talk about Oakwood.
They refused to talk to Metroparks about Oakwood.
A developer bought land that was zoned residential.
He drives into town in a fancy car and flashes his money.
City officials act like high school girls around the captain of the football team.
South Euclid’s Comprehensive Plan and the 2 updates are thrown out the window.
Our community has plenty of civic vision.
What we don’t have are city officials who can see beyond their noses.
It’s up to you to save your community.
