As today was a light day at the Film Festival (only 2 movies), I had the opportunity to visit Taiwan. R U There stars a Dutch actor visiting Taipei for a gaming convention. He happens to meet Min Min who is aloof to him in person, but is passionate on the computer games each plays separately in their rooms. He follows her to her home but they become no closer. Do the sparks only fly when they are online? While intriguing, this movie is not for everyone. 2 stars out of 4.
On Thursday, March 31, the Film Festival returns to the Cedar Lee for one night only to see With Love from the Age. Margaret has looks to kill and an adoring English lover. In fact, she has everything going for her but freedom. On her 40th birthday, Margaret receives a bundle of letters she wrote to herself when she was seven. A jumble of colorful collages, photographs, and wildly creative puzzles, they seem to come from a different girl entirely. As her letters to herself keep coming, Margaret finds herself disenchanted. She visits her childhood village and, by reconnecting with people who see in her the girl they once knew, she starts finding her way to the woman she vowed to become.
If you don’t have a ticket, plan to arrive there an hour before its 7:30 start.
See you at the Film Festival in the next few days.
