Oakwood: Audio, video and remember “Regionalism”?

Fran Mentch · April 20, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Click here and SCROLL DOWN to watch and listen to:

Video of South Euclid Planning Commission’s vote to rezone Oakwood on 4/14/11.
Audio excerpts from Public Hearing about rezoning Oakwood 3/10/11. Excerpts are of South Euclid residents only.

Thanks to South Euclid Oversight‘s Emilie DiFranco and Dave Furry for making these audio and videotapes and posting them for the public.

If you watch the video you will hear a member of the Planning Commission state that she thinks the opposition to rezoning Oakwood is “98% from outside the city”. We are not criticizing this commission member in any way.

But it is unclear what the basis is for that statement.

All members of the Planning Commission attended their public hearing. If you read the minutes from the 3/10/11 Public Hearing that the South Euclid Planning Commission you will see a listing of names.

You can read the 3/10/11 minutes here .

By our count 31 South Euclid residents, 29 Cleveland Heights residents, 1 Cleveland, 1 East Cleveland and 1 Lyndhurst resident spoke at the hearing. There is no way to know if they opposed or supported the rezoning, as nothing is listed in the “minutes” other than names and addresses.

Residents understand that this is a regional issue.

City officials do not understand that this is a regional issue.

Residents—at this point in time, all we have are each other.

Fortunately, that is more than enough to keep Big Box, strip retail and drive-thru fast food from Oakwood!OPPOSE REZONING OF OAKWOOD

Attend the public hearing on May 18th at 6 pm re: the South Euclid Comprehensive Plan.
ATTEND THE PUBLIC HEARING RE: OAKWOOD HELD BY CITY COUNCIL ON WEDNESDAY MAY 25TH at 6pm in the South Euclid City Hall.
