Last Friday I experienced urban wonder. Passionate – color filled – electric energy – urban wonder. Just shy of Little Italy at the Artist Archives of the Western Reserve I attended an amazing retrospective exhibition of the Art of Michelangelo Lovelace, Sr.
Michelangelo’s work is vibrant with life, color, love – the public life of many and the intimacy of a few told through bold and varied brush stokes. It’s loud and passionate and his work brings you to the curb of a bustling city, a life alive with feeling and emotion – of – Cleveland. His paintings give me a new sense of Cleveland – of a city ready to explode and take a stand. Yet – this is what Mr. Lovelace Sr. has been painting for 26 years. He has opened my eyes and my heart to my own city. A city full of urban wonder and life.
Saturday, June 23, 2012 there will be an afternoon dialogue with Mr. Lovelace from 1:00pm – 2:30pm at the AAWR. Don’t miss this engaging exhibit and the chance to listen to an amazing artist.
The gallery is open from 10am-4pm (Wed – Fri); 12:00 – 4:00pm (Sat.) More information can be found at: www.artistsarchives.org or www.lovelaceart.com
