Fantastic Seasonal Wines on a Rainy Night

Tiffany Laufer · October 27, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Last night I ventured out to my first wine and beer tasting at The Wine Spot on Lee Road.

Rain and all it was a perfect night to meet new people and discover brilliant wines.   I actually went for the beer but everyone was more interested in the wine and I too love a great class of red wine.  Adam and Susan Fleischer featured Halloween inspired ‘seasonal’ wines for the evening as well as a local Cleveland beer (Buckeye Cleveland, Pumpkin Head). Cleveland Beer week is just ending today.

The Line Up: L-R, Lenore (Corvidae Lenore Syrah 09), Zinzilla (McNab Ridge Winery), Sleight of Hand, The Magician (Sleight of Hand Cellars), The Executioner (Shinas Estate)

There was some discussion as to what order the wines should be presented in with all the offerings and pouring happening.  The conversation drifted from which occasion each wine might best be presented to why Detroit is the hub of house music and talk of politics with the election close at hand. It was a lively group.

The favorite for the night went to…

A dramatic label no doubt. The Wine: suburb. (A blend of Shiraz 55%, Cabernet Sauvignion 43%, Voignier 2%).

Each wine had a place according to the group for a specific occasion.  That being said, the all around pick came to The Executioner, an Australian blend from the father – son team of Shinas Estate.  Their labels are worth a note – other varieties are: The Guilty, The Innocent, The Verdict (A judge) and Sweet Justice.  The artwork featured on the labels and on the wall this night was truly diverse.  The Wine Spot is also The Art Spot, a Cleveland Institute of Art student exhibition space.  The exhibit up presently is called “Five” for the five artists featured.   What a great means to bring exciting new artwork into the community and beyond the walls of CIA.

All art is for sale, proceeds returning to the artist at CIA

In addition to the wine and beer selections of the night, Kari Moore of Farm Share was on hand to offer local Northeast Ohio cheese suggestions to match the pairings.

A tribute to the old Seitz-Agin, perfectly placed.

The Wine Spot will celebrate their one year anniversary on Lee Road in December.
