Cleveland Film Festival – Year 36 begins in 2 1/2 weeks

Jim Simler · March 4, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Its that time of year when the days are getting longer, the temperatures getting warming and the flowers become bloomers.  But for me, I will be getting pastier spending a glorious 11 days in the dark seeing the world through the lens of movies.  Yes, the Film Festival is March 22 – April  1.  http://www.clevelandfilm.org/

The opening night Gala is “Nesting”, a world premier about a newly  married couple experiencing growing pains.  Of course, it is not just the movie.  There is the reception party in which the director, actors, and screenwriters plan to be in attendance. It will set you back $125 ($100 for CIFF members), but it is a great way to begin the festival.

In the next several weeks, I will be highlighting some unique aspects of the film festival.  If you are new to this, be sure to check out some of my older articles to learn about the ins and outs of the festival.

In the meantime, to get ready for a week of great movies, head directly NOW to the Cedar Lee to catch “A Separation”.  This Iranian film won an Oscar, Golden Globe, Indy Spirit and Caesar award for best foreign language film.  Perhaps the best movie I have seen in a couple of years, it tells the story about a couple moving down different paths.  This decision leads to many consequences that touch on universal topics such as elderly parents, legal suits, jealousy and deception.  The one question that nagged me throughout this film.  Why can’t Hollywood come up with a story this well acted and well told?

See you at the movies.
