Wiley Middle School’s 1st Annual Health and Wellness Fair was viewed as a success by those in attendance. “This was good. This was a good event for the school,” replied one parent as she retired from the line dance instruction being held in the main foyer.
With participation from health care professionals in the areas of diabetes care, sickle cell, kidney awareness and more, the fair gave attendees the opportunity to gain knowledge on a variety of topics under one roof.
Health fairs are beneficial to communities because of its popularity as a tool of preventative medicine. While some reports in The New England Journal of Medicine debate the actual cost saving dollars that preventative care brings, it is widely acknowledged that the key to successful treatment of disease is early detection.
Mixed in with a little bit of fun and a wealth of information, Wiley Middle School’s Health and Wellness Fair served the community an ounce of prevention that could be worth a pound of cure.
