I attended a rehearsal today of the Cleveland Heights based classical choral group, Choral Arts Cleveland, who, along with the choirs of Fairmount Presbyterian Church, and First Baptist Church, and the instrumentalists of the Suburban Symphony, under the direction of Martin Kessler, are performing Beethoven’s Missa Solmnis in D tomorrow. The number of performers in this musical performance is impressive enough, but what makes it even more impressive is that all of the choir members and instrumentalists are volunteers– doing this solely out of their love of music. My wife is one of the choir members, so I know that many, many hours have gone into preparing for this upcoming concert. Members in the combined groups range in age from early 20’s to late 80’s. The piece which they are performing is not an easy one, even for professional performers. The concert is being performed Sunday, March 20th, at 3:30, at First Baptist Church on the corner of Eaton and Fairmount. I hope they get a large audience. Cleveland Heights is known for its music and art scene, and the beautiful sounds of classical music being produced by people who truly love it is one of the lesser known yet vital parts of this scene.
